Well, we finally did it. Leighton is fully potty trained. I secretly worried and wondered if the day would ever come, but it did. We made our first attempt when L was almost 2 years old and it seemed like she wasn't at all physiologically or verbally ready for it. We tried again a few months later in an effort to train her before her new baby brother arrived in April. Needless to say, that was an utter failure and frustrating experience for all of us. And then we had a baby and life was just too crazy to think about potty training, so back to diapers it was and we decided to put off potty training a little while longer.
Then two weeks ago, Leighton was upstairs playing in her room and brought down her package of her big girl panties and asked if she could wear them. I explained to her that she could wear them after she learned how to go potty on the potty and she said, "Mommy, I want to wear them today so can I try to go tinkle on the potty now?" And so she did. Every time that day. Just like that. We went and bought new panties (Elsa and Anna, of course), and she was really proud of herself. We had a few accidents over the next couple of days (going no. 2 was definitely more difficult to learn than going no. 1, especially with her digestive issues), and she regressed a little when we went away this past weekend to Wake, but for the most part, she potty trained herself very quickly. And all it took was waiting until she was ready to do it on her own. Well, that and maybe a box of mini m&m's... one for every time she pottied successfully.
I'm happy to report we are now back to buying diapers for only one child. Whew. Two kids in diapers isn't fun. For us or for our wallet. L is still wearing a pull-up at night, but no more pull-up at nap time now and she goes potty right when she wakes from nap, so maybe we'll conquer nighttime potty training soon. So proud of our Bug! It's crazy how fast our baby girl is growing up in the blink of an eye...
